The upcoming Netflix docuseries, “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” executive produced by 50 Cent, promises an unfiltered look into Sean “Diddy” Combs’ final days before his highly publicized arrest and conviction. 50 Cent, whose own history with Diddy has been marked by public tension, believes the raw footage captured in the series exposes Diddy’s “true character.”
Raw Footage and Diddy’s Reaction
The documentary, directed by Alex Stapleton, features never-before-seen footage of Diddy in the lead-up to his arrest on federal sex trafficking and prostitution charges. One clip shows a visibly disturbed Diddy on a phone call with his legal team just days before his September 2024 arrest, expressing frustration and urgency: “We’re losing.”
50 Cent expressed surprise that Diddy allowed such footage to be filmed. Director Stapleton noted Diddy’s behavior during these final days of freedom was “very interesting to watch,” especially considering his strong “brand presence” and marketing prowess. She questioned how he was attempting to manage his public image during such a critical time.
The “Hand Sanitizer” Moment
Another revealing moment captured in the trailer shows Diddy interacting with fans in his childhood neighborhood of Harlem. Upon returning to his vehicle, Diddy is heard saying, “I got to take a bath.” He explains his need for hygiene due to the “amount of people” he came into contact with, implying a disconnect between his public persona and his private sentiments.
50 Cent highlighted this specific footage, telling “GMA” co-host Robin Roberts that it “should show you his character.” He suggested that Diddy “forgot he was on tape” during this interaction, offering a candid glimpse into his mindset.
Explaining the Past ‘Beef’
When asked about his long-standing public tension with Diddy, 50 Cent clarified that it stemmed from an “uncomfortable” offer Diddy allegedly made years ago. “What they consider a pre-existing beef… is me being uncomfortable with him suggesting that he takes me shopping,” 50 Cent explained. He described it as a “tester, like, maybe you’ll come play with me, type of thing.” Despite this history, 50 Cent stated his issues with Diddy were “not personal.”
A Storytelling Approach
Director Stapleton emphasized that the series aims for comprehensive storytelling, not just highlighting negative perspectives. “We weren’t trying to just get the highlights, the salacious details… the real goal was to storytell,” she stated, noting that individuals without allegations were also included in the project.
“Sean Combs: The Reckoning” is set to premiere on Netflix on December 2nd, offering viewers a deep dive into the final days of Diddy’s freedom and the events leading up to his conviction.
