In a heartwarming display of community support, Grammy-winning artist SZA is teaming up with beloved Los Angeles eatery Jon & Vinny’s to combat food insecurity. Through her nonprofit organization, NOT Charity, SZA is helping to provide 1,400 free meals to families struggling with the uncertainty surrounding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits during the ongoing government shutdown.
A Delicious Collaboration for a Cause
SZA, known for her soulful music, has shown her commitment to helping those in need. She reached out to Jon & Vinny’s with the idea, and together they are making it a reality. The partnership aims to offer 100 dinners for two each day for seven days, totaling 1,400 meals for Los Angeles community members who rely on SNAP.
“Y’all know how much I love Jon and Vinny’s,” SZA shared on Instagram, “But it ain’t no fun if the homies can’t have none!!” The restaurant expressed gratitude for SZA’s initiative, stating, “Over the next seven days, we are partnering with her NOT Charity to provide 1,400 free meals (100 dinners for two per day) for Los Angeles community members who receive SNAP.”
Addressing the SNAP Crisis
This initiative comes at a critical time, as millions of Americans, including 5.5 million Californians, face uncertainty regarding their food assistance. The prolonged government shutdown has stretched food pantries thin and left many families struggling to put food on the table, especially with Thanksgiving approaching. The Trump administration’s petition to freeze SNAP payments adds further complexity to an already dire situation.
Recipients can sign up for the meal program by emailing [email protected], with a limit of four meals per family. Meals are available for pickup at Jon & Vinny’s Slauson location daily from 3 to 5 p.m. between November 11 and November 17. While lawmakers continue to debate funding, SZA’s grassroots effort provides immediate and tangible relief to a community in need.
