Remember when Swae Lee told fans not to vote for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election? Well, the Rae Sremmurd member is back to clarify his political views, and it turns out he’s not exactly a fan of Donald Trump either. In a recent chat on The Breakfast Club, Swae Lee opened up about his stance, aiming to clear up any confusion about his political allegiances.
Clearing the Air on Political Endorsements
Swae Lee emphasized that he doesn’t align himself with any specific politician. “I don’t hate Kamala Harris. I ain’t never announce my solidarity with no politician,” he stated. He addressed the misconception that he supports Donald Trump, noting, “Some people think I’m a Trump supporter. I’m like, you ain’t never seen me with no MAGA hat, nothing.”
His approach to politics involves doing his own research to understand what candidates will genuinely impact people’s lives. “I don’t support no politicians. I do my research, and I see what they’re really gonna do for the people. What are they gonna do that’s gonna affect my everyday life?” he explained.
Reflecting on Past Comments
Looking back at his previous comments about Kamala Harris, Swae Lee admitted he felt people were perhaps too optimistic about her at the time. He wanted to highlight potential flaws, but he also acknowledged that he couldn’t predict the future, especially regarding Donald Trump’s actions since leaving office. “I couldn’t see the future and didn’t know Trump was going to do everything he’s done since getting in office,” he said.
He reiterated his lack of support for Trump, stating, “I ain’t standing with that sh*t either. I don’t want people to think I’m standing with none of that sh*t.” Swae Lee is searching for a candidate who can bring about real positive change, which he believes is rare.
Did He Vote? And What About That Tweet?
Swae Lee confessed that he might have been influenced by propaganda when he made his initial statement. “Going back, I wouldn’t have even spoke on it,” he reflected. He also revealed that he ultimately did not vote in the election. His earlier, since-deleted X (formerly Twitter) post urged followers: “Do not vote for Kamala !!! Do your research on that whole [campaign].”
This clarification comes as Swae Lee recently dropped his first solo full-length album, “SAME DIFFERENCE.” It seems the artist is focused on his music rather than wading deep into political waters.
