Niecy Nash’s Birthday Trip to Mexico Turned Scary

Niecy Nash recently celebrated her 56th birthday with a belated Michael Jordan-themed bash in Los Angeles, surrounded by friends and family. However, the festivities stood in stark contrast to how she spent her actual birthday, which turned into a frightening ordeal in Mexico.

Caught in Cartel Violence

On February 25th, just two days after her February 23rd birthday, Nash revealed on Instagram that she and her family were caught in the crosshairs of recent cartel violence in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The incident occurred shortly after the killing of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, on February 22nd.

Nash shared a video featuring herself, her mother, her three children, their friends, and her spouse Jessica Betts, posting it as a “thank you” to everyone who offered support, prayers, well wishes, and assistance in getting them out safely. “FINALLY‼️ Home from Puerto Vallarta 😳Went to celebrate my bday with my family, and got caught up in the cartel attacks,” she wrote. “Challenges for sure showed up BUT GOD! 🙏🏾 Black people are so resilient! One thing for sure, two things for certain We. Will. Keep. Our. JOY!” she added, describing their joy on full display despite the stressful situation at the packed airport.

A ‘Scary’ Experience and Gratitude for Safety

Speaking to People magazine at her birthday party, Nash described the experience as “scary,” particularly because she had other people’s children with her. “It was scary because I let my kids bring their friends,” she explained. “So I had other people’s children. It was scary, but we got out unscathed … thanks to the Most High.”

She emphasized the importance of cherishing life and joy, especially in the face of adversity. Nash’s resilience and gratitude shine through as she reflects on the challenging circumstances, reminding everyone to “take every moment to celebrate joy, celebrate life, all the things.”
