Teyana Taylor Named Chief Curator of Essence Fest

Teyana Taylor is stepping into a major new role for this year’s Essence Festival of Culture. The media platform announced on Wednesday, March 18th, that the multi-talented R&B star and actress has been named the Chief Curator for the 2026 Essence Fest, promising “next level vibes.”

A New Role Behind the Scenes

Organizers emphasized Taylor’s significant role, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “We said ladies first, and we meant it. Not just on the stage, but behind the scenes too. We are excited to announce Teyana Taylor is stepping in as Chief Curator for the 2026 ESSENCE Festival, and you already know the vibes are about to be next level.”

Taylor, a millennial creative force, will collaborate with “The Aunties” to shape this year’s festival lineup. Her responsibilities will span both the highly anticipated evening concert series and the daytime experiences. “Along with her creative team, The Aunties are curating the moments, the surprises, and everything in between as the creative directors for one of the most celebrated festivals in the world,” the announcement continued.

Festival Details and Star-Studded Lineup

The Essence Festival of Culture is set to return for its 32nd year in New Orleans from July 3rd to July 5th. The festival continues its tradition of celebrating Black culture and Black women with a comprehensive slate of programming. Earlier this month, the first wave of performers for the music festival at the Caesars Superdome was revealed, including Cardi B, who will be making her ESSENCE Festival debut.

The music lineup also features R&B stars Kehlani, Brandy, Monica, and Patti LaBelle, alongside hip-hop representation from Latto. Attendees can also look forward to the return of the daytime experience at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, which will host panels, brand activations, and shopping opportunities. Signature attractions like the ESSENCE Food & Wine Festival, Beautycon @ ESSENCE Festival of Culture, and SOKO MRKT are also expected.
