Get ready for a soulful showdown as R&B singers Tank and Tyrese prepare to go head-to-head in a Verzuz battle. The brand announced that these two notable artists, known for their smooth vocals and hit songs like “Sweet Lady,” “Maybe I Deserve,” “Signs of Love Making,” and “When We,” will take the stage live from Los Angeles on March 26th.
A Reunion of TGT and R&B Royalty
Both artists have had significant solo careers and were also part of the R&B supergroup TGT (Tank, Ginuwine, Tyrese). During their time together, they delivered slow-burning hits like “I Need.” Now, “Black Ty” and the “R&B General” are set to compete in a “Hit vs Hit” battle, a format that has captivated audiences and celebrated the legacies of music icons.
The origins of this anticipated Verzuz matchup trace back to 2022 when Tank revealed on Noreaga’s “Drink Champs” podcast that he and Tyrese often engaged in vocal run-offs to determine who was superior. Tank recalled, “It was a run for run…Tyrese will tell you we went run for run on an EOL, ‘Elements of Life,’ video shoot. We went note for note and I said, ‘This is why I’m different.’ And he said, ‘Oooh,’ and that’s when he became my friend.”
Friendly Rivalry and Fan Defenses
Tyrese verified the story on Instagram, adding his own perspective: “Dear King Vocal let me be very very clear I don’t want NOOOOOO smoke on vocals.” However, he also expressed his competitive spirit regarding hits: “When it comes to HIT vs HITS…I want all the smoke but I’m still not doing a Verzus with you cause you’re my brother…So we’re clear…I have no idea why the game want us to battle but I get it…”
The dynamic shifted when Tank reportedly claimed he could beat Tyrese in a Verzuz. This led to a fan defending Tank on Twitter, writing, “I really don’t know what @Tyrese was thinking saying he can beat @TheRealTank in a #VERZUZ. Man it ain’t close lol.” The fan further elaborated, suggesting Tank could win rounds even with lesser-known songs against Tyrese’s biggest hits. This fan sentiment highlights the anticipation and debate surrounding who might come out on top in this R&B showdown.

Now, Tank and Tyrese are set to prove their hit-making prowess on stage in Los Angeles. The event is scheduled for March 26th, with tickets available for in-person viewing. Fans can also stream the battle live on VERZUZ TV’s Instagram and Apple Music.
