Big news from the political and personal lives of Senator Cory Booker! He and his fiancée, Alexis Lewis, have officially tied the knot. The couple celebrated their union with not one, but two ceremonies, marking a beautiful new chapter for them both.
Two Ceremonies, One Love Story
The newlyweds held their first ceremony at a courthouse in Newark, New Jersey, on Monday. This intimate gathering was witnessed by their parents, making it a special moment for their families. Following that, they celebrated a second ceremony on Saturday in Lewis’s hometown of Washington, D.C., which was followed by a reception exclusively for family.
According to the New York Times, the couple shared an intimate, interfaith ceremony, blending Booker’s Christian faith with Lewis’s Jewish heritage. This thoughtful approach highlights their commitment to honoring each other’s backgrounds as they start their married life together.
A Look at the Couple
Cory Booker, 56, is the first African American senator representing New Jersey, a position he’s held since 2013 and is running for again in 2026. Before his Senate career, he served two terms as the mayor of Newark. Alexis Lewis, 38, is a director at a real estate investment firm, Brasa Capital Management, and also has public sector experience, having worked in the office of former L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti.
From Engagement to “I Do”
The couple got engaged in August in Hawaii and shared their happy news publicly in September. Booker expressed his deep feelings for Lewis in an Instagram post, calling her “one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life” and crediting her with helping him “ground and center my inner life” and discover the joys of building a home. He even mentioned on the “I’ve Had It” podcast that they wanted to marry quickly, hoping to start a family soon.
Their love story began with a blind date set up by a mutual friend in May 2024. After a five-hour first date, Lewis was so impressed that she changed her flight plans to see Booker again when she learned he would be in Newark. They moved in together in April of this year, with Lewis telling the New York Times that she never thought she’d get married after so many years on her own, but found something truly special with Booker.
