Could we see Senator Cory Booker back on the presidential campaign trail? The New Jersey lawmaker recently sat down with NBC News’ Kristen Welker on ‘Meet the Press’ and didn’t shy away from the possibility of a 2028 run. When asked if he was ruling out another presidential bid, Booker’s response was clear: ‘I’m definitely not ruling it out.’
A New Partnership, A New Consideration
A significant factor in Booker’s potential decision is his new wife, Alexis Lewis. The couple, who tied the knot in November 2025, are approaching this potential political endeavor as a united front. Booker emphasized that Lewis understands the stakes involved and that together, they are stronger and ready for future challenges.
While the door to the White House might be open, Booker also reminded everyone that his immediate focus is on his current role. He’s seeking reelection for his Senate seat this November and hopes for continued support from New Jersey voters for another six years.
Promoting Unity Amidst Division
Booker is currently on tour promoting his new book, ‘Stand.’ In it, he shares his vision for America’s future, particularly addressing the deep political divides and rising violence. He expressed concern that adversaries exploit these divisions on social media, fueling hate and polarization. Booker advocates for a more unifying vision that brings people together rather than deepening existing rifts.
Fundraising and Past Campaigns
Adding fuel to the 2028 speculation is Booker’s significant fundraising success. His campaign account has reportedly raised $10 million, a portion of which was boosted by his record-breaking 25-hour, 5-minute, and 59-second Senate speech in April 2025. This lengthy opposition to Trump administration actions was seen by many as the kind of bold stance voters desired.
Booker also shared his thoughts on the Democratic Party’s narrative, suggesting it should move beyond simply opposing Donald Trump. He believes the party needs to focus on future challenges, such as advancements in AI and robotics, and foster greater national unity, reminding Americans that they are not each other’s enemies. This comes after his previous presidential run in the crowded 2020 Democratic primary, which he suspended in January 2020 due to fundraising difficulties.
