Kandi Burruss’ Prenup Dictates Divorce Terms

Well, it’s official. After 11 years of marriage, Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker are going their separate ways. Kandi confirmed the news, describing it as a decision made after “deep thought and a lot of prayer.” While the split might be sad for fans, it’s also bringing a lot of attention back to a document that almost stopped their wedding in the first place: their prenup.

The Infamous Prenuptial Agreement

You might remember the drama surrounding Kandi and Todd’s prenup from back in 2014. Todd famously stormed out of the wedding rehearsal, calling the legal document “some bullsh*t.” The agreement, which Kandi’s outspoken mother, Mama Joyce, heavily influenced, was designed to protect Kandi’s assets acquired before the marriage. Key clauses included Todd having to vacate Kandi’s home within 30 days of a split and receiving nothing if Kandi died during their marriage.

This prenup is now the final word on how their assets will be divided. Kandi has been a vocal advocate for women, especially those who are financially more established, to protect themselves legally. She’s often cited celebrity divorces where women ended up paying hefty sums in spousal support, like Halle Berry’s $20,000 monthly child support payments, or situations where prenups were challenged, as she mentioned with Sherri Shepherd.

Protecting Pre-Marital Assets

Kandi’s stance has always been clear: she wanted to safeguard what she had built before marrying Todd. This includes her businesses like Bedroom Kandi, her music ventures, her stores, properties, and other assets. She emphasized, “I’m not paying spousal support, oh no.” Her goal was to ensure these pre-existing assets remained hers.

Todd ultimately signed the agreement just before their wedding, reportedly to prove his love for Kandi and that his intentions were genuine, not financially motivated. He stated at the time, “I proved once and for all I’m in this relationship because I love Kandi, not because I want her money.” This decision means that the assets Kandi had accumulated prior to their union are now secure.

Focusing on Co-Parenting

Despite the end of their marriage, Kandi stated her priority is “protecting my peace, being the best mother I can be, and co-parenting with love and respect.” The couple shares two children, Ace and Blaze, and Kandi also has daughter Riley, while Todd has daughter Kaela from previous relationships. The prenup’s resolution allows them to focus on navigating this new chapter with their children.
