Oh, Montero! Grammy-winning artist Lil Nas X is reportedly facing significant legal consequences after an incident in Los Angeles. Prosecutors have charged the “Old Town Road” rapper with four felonies, including charges related to allegedly attacking and injuring police officers.
Charges and Allegations
According to L.A. Superior Court records, the charges against the 26-year-old artist, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, include three counts of battery against a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer. Reports suggest he could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted of these charges.
The legal trouble stems from an incident early Thursday morning where Lil Nas X was reportedly found walking through Los Angeles streets, seemingly distressed and partially undressed, wearing only cowboy boots and rapping along to Nicki Minaj’s song “Monster.” Viral clips captured the rapper interacting with fans, sometimes posing for photos and other times telling people to stop recording him.
Police Confrontation and Injuries
When LAPD officers responded to calls about the distressed individual, they claim Lil Nas X did not cooperate. According to their reports, the artist allegedly “charged” and “swung” at officers when confronted. This alleged altercation resulted in three officers sustaining injuries, leading to the accompanying felony charges.
Following his arrest and hospitalization for a suspected overdose, Lil Nas X spent the weekend in jail. Fans have rallied around the artist, flooding social media with messages of support using the hashtag #PrayforMontero, amidst concerns about his well-being and the ongoing legal case.

Lil Nas X remains in custody and is awaiting an arraignment scheduled for later Monday. Judge Sarah Ellenberg in Van Nuys will determine bail at the hearing.
