    A man in the United States is facing significant prison time after a daring smuggling operation was uncovered. Federal authorities revealed that Wei Qiang Lin allegedly smuggled a staggering 850 live turtles to Hong Kong, cleverly hiding them inside socks and disguising the shipments as toys.

    The scheme was elaborate; Lin reportedly packed the turtles into socks before placing them in boxes falsely labeled as “toys” on shipping documents. Investigators believe this was part of a larger illegal wildlife trafficking network.

    Lin’s operation wasn’t limited to just turtles. Officials also discovered that he attempted to smuggle 11 additional parcels containing other reptiles, including venomous snakes.     Wei Qiang Lin has been charged under U.S. wildlife protection laws, facing a maximum sentence of five years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for December 23.
