Get ready, Atlanta! As the city gears up to host the electrifying FIFA World Cup 2026™, it’s not just preparing for the games – it’s set to showcase the vibrant culture, boundless creativity, and strong community spirit that define it. The newly announced Atlanta Cultural Exchange promises to put the Southern city’s unique artistic ecosystem on the global map.
A Global Stage for Atlanta’s Talent
Mayor Andre Dickens, alongside the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, has officially launched the Atlanta Cultural Exchange. This immersive platform aims to highlight Atlanta’s creative talent on an international scale throughout the month-long tournament. Mayor Dickens emphasized that the World Cup is more than just sports; it’s a ‘once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase our city and this entire region.’
From June 14 to July 14, 2026, the former CNN Center, now known as The CTR Atlanta, will be transformed. This expansive space will become a dynamic hub celebrating art, fashion, music, innovation, film, and interactive experiences, all designed to reflect the rich tapestry of Atlanta’s creative soul. The initiative is set to occupy over 23,000 square feet and is expected to welcome up to 2,000 guests.
Culture by Design: Fostering Opportunity
Under the theme “Culture by Design,” the Exchange is meticulously planned to provide a platform for both established and emerging creatives. Attendees can look forward to live performances, film screenings, engaging workshops, insightful artist talks, community discussions, and youth-focused activities. A core goal is to ensure local artists and entrepreneurs benefit directly from the economic impact of the World Cup.
Adriane Jefferson, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, highlighted that Atlanta already possesses immense culture; the Exchange is about amplifying its visibility. “Atlanta already has culture. We just have to raise the bar in the visibility of it,” she stated. The initiative aims to create lasting economic opportunities by merging commerce, creativity, and community.
A Collaborative Effort with Global Reach
The Atlanta Cultural Exchange is a collaborative effort, bringing together a wide array of cultural organizations, artists, and partners. These include Atlanta Influences Everything, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Opera, ZuCot Gallery, ABV Gallery, HBCU Made, Historically Black Since, One MusicFest, and CultureCon founder Imani Ellis, among others. International collaborators from Spain, Mexico, South Africa, and Haiti will also participate.
Major corporate partners like Amazon and Google are lending significant support. Amazon is sponsoring the Community Stage, while Google will lead discussions on creativity and artificial intelligence. This broad support underscores a commitment to bringing communities together, not just within Atlanta but globally.
The city has already begun building excitement through pre-tournament community activations and youth programs. Organizers envision the Atlanta Cultural Exchange as more than just a temporary event; their ultimate goal is to establish a lasting platform that cements Atlanta’s status as a global creative capital long after the final whistle blows.
