In the premiere episode of ‘The Black Estate,’ we’re introduced to Quincy and Tawian Livingston, an inspiring Atlanta couple who are not just homeowners but are actively redefining what Black homeownership looks like. Their journey is a beautiful testament to love, intention, and building a lasting legacy.
Finding ‘The One’
Married for 17 years and raising two children, Quincy and Tawian have created a vibrant home filled with love, laughter, and constant hosting. “We’re always hosting,” Quincy shares. “Breaking bread, that’s one of the most communal things you can do with one another.” Their home is the central hub for family gatherings, work, school projects, and entertainment, kept seamlessly connected thanks to Xfinity WiFi.
The moment they first saw their house, both Quincy and Tawian felt an undeniable connection. “As soon as I stepped foot here, I said, ‘You know, I think I’ll stay a while.’ It just was a good feeling that I had,” Quincy recalls. Owning their first home together has been an eye-opening experience, often requiring them to forge their own path without a clear template.
A Sanctuary Built on Intention
Quincy, who is also a realtor, reflects on the historical significance of Black homeownership. “At one point, African Americans weren’t even allowed to own property—so I take that charge every day selling real estate and how fortunate we are to be in the time that we are in.” They’ve intentionally designed their home to be a safe haven for their children, who have known no other place to live. “This home is the first and only home that they’ve ever known,” Quincy says. “This is their safe space.”
Staying Connected Through Life’s Changes
Reliable WiFi has been crucial, especially during the pandemic. Quincy highlights how he was able to transform their home into a functional office, juggling work with childcare. Tawian, a doctor, also relies heavily on their home’s connectivity for everything from assisting their children with schoolwork to managing patient communications.
Inspiring Others Through Their Journey
More than just a house, the Livingstons are building a legacy. Their family’s story serves as powerful proof of what is attainable. “We walk the walk every day, hoping to inspire others and let them know that this is possible,” Quincy states. Tawian adds, “Sometimes people need to see people like you, and people who look like you. This is attainable—marriage, children, having a house, just living a good life.”
