Trump’s YMCA Dance: A Chart-Topping Move?

Well, it seems Donald Trump is ready to take credit for a major music comeback! During a recent rally in The Villages, Florida, the former president suggested that his enthusiastic dance moves to the Village People’s iconic song ‘Y.M.C.A.’ are the reason the 1970s hit has climbed back up the charts.

Trump’s Take on Chart Success

The 79-year-old politician, who frequently uses the song on the campaign trail, playfully referred to ‘Y.M.C.A.’ as the ‘gay national anthem.’ He told the crowd that his signature fist pumps and hip shakes have propelled the track to the top of the music charts. While he claimed it held the number one spot for months, Billboard data actually shows the song spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart in 2024. Still, that’s quite a resurgence for a song that originally peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 back in 1979!

A Little Friction at Home?

It’s not just the rally crowds who are witnessing Trump’s dance moves. He also shared a humorous anecdote about his wife, Melania Trump, and her reaction to his energetic performances. He joked that she finds his ‘Y.M.C.A.’ routine a bit much, even telling him, ‘Darling, please don’t dance. It’s not presidential.’

She hates when I dance to what is sometimes referred to as the gay national anthem. She hates it. — Donald Trump

Despite Melania’s preference for a more traditional image, Trump playfully countered that his polling numbers are strong, suggesting his personality and performance style resonate with voters. He concluded the event by giving his enthusiastic supporters the dance moves they’ve come to expect.

Do you think Donald Trump’s dance moves really helped ‘Y.M.C.A.’ hit No. 1? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
