Pinky Cole Reveals Bankruptcy to Husband

In a moment of raw vulnerability on the latest episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” entrepreneur Pinky Cole finally revealed her Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing to her husband, Derrick Hayes. The Slutty Vegan founder had been grappling with mounting loans and tax obligations tied to her rapidly expanding vegan fast-food brand, and the decision to file for bankruptcy protection in February was a difficult one she initially kept from her husband.

A Difficult Conversation and an Offer of Support

During a walk on the episode that aired April 26th, Cole became emotional as she explained the extent of the financial situation to Hayes. When he asked about the debt, she revealed a staggering figure: “$5 million dollars.” Hayes, who is also the CEO and founder of Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks, expressed concern, calling it a “public nightmare.” Cole agreed, admitting, “It’s already a public nightmare.”

Hayes questioned why Cole hadn’t confided in him sooner, especially before discussing it with her castmates. Despite his surprise, he immediately offered his unwavering support. “I’m going to give you the $5 million. We married man. No we riding to the wheels fall off,” he assured her. He emphasized the importance of communication, stating, “But you got to start talking to me, too. I deserve to know the truth, too.”

Fear of Being a Burden and Finding Healing

Cole explained her hesitation, tearfully admitting she didn’t want to be seen as a “victim” or pull her husband down while she was trying to navigate the crisis. She later appeared on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” where she elaborated on her fears of creating “problems” for Hayes, who she noted “pays all the bills.” She confessed, “I didn’t want to be his burden.”

Cole also shared in an earlier interview with BOSSIP that the financial stress and public scrutiny had taken a severe toll, making her feel like her life was unraveling. “I died on the inside before anybody else went to my funeral,” she said, revealing she suffered in silence before the news became public. This healing journey is a central theme viewers will follow throughout the current season of #RHOA.

A Legal Victory Amidst the Ordeal

Adding to her recent challenges, Cole also revealed on “WWHL” that she had regained control of her rental property after a creditor attempted to seize it earlier this year. In a significant legal victory in March, a federal bankruptcy judge ruled in Cole’s favor after the creditor failed to appear in court. The judge ordered the locks to be changed back, returning the property to her, a major win amidst her ongoing financial recovery.
