Judge Denies Megan Thee Stallion’s Gag Order Against Blogger

It’s a legal setback for Megan Thee Stallion. The Grammy-winning artist, whose real name is Megan Pete, recently had her request for a permanent injunction against blogger Milagro Elizabeth Cooper (known online as Milagro Gramz) denied by a federal judge.

Judge Cites Lack of Immediate Harm

Chief U.S. District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga issued the ruling on April 20, stating that Megan had not provided sufficient evidence to demonstrate an immediate threat of future harm. This decision came after a jury had previously found Cooper liable for defamation per se, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and promoting an altered sexual depiction, awarding Megan compensatory and punitive damages.

Megan had sought the injunction to prevent Cooper from contacting her, making statements about her mental health or testimony, discussing her family, and further circulating a deepfake video. However, Judge Altonaga determined that Cooper’s actions did not meet the specific legal standard required under Florida’s cyberstalking law.

Blogger’s Actions Deemed Not Cyberstalking

The judge pointed out that while the jury found Cooper acted “intentionally or recklessly,” the cyberstalking statute requires proof of conduct that is both willful and malicious. Furthermore, the jury’s finding that Cooper regularly published news and commentary, operating similarly to traditional media outlets, weighed against the claim that her posts served “no legitimate purpose.”

After reviewing Cooper’s various public statements following the verdict, including an Instagram Live session, a television interview, and other social media posts, Judge Altonaga concluded that none of them qualified as cyberstalking or ongoing harassment under Florida law. This ruling means the blogger is not subject to the permanent injunction Megan had requested.
