Big news in the digital health space! BlackDoctor, the premier platform dedicated to the health and wellness of Black Americans, has announced the appointment of Akinwole “Aki” Garrett as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2026. This leadership transition follows the company’s recent rebrand and signals an exciting new chapter focused on accelerated growth and expanded impact.
A New Era of Leadership
Garrett, who previously served as the company’s President and Chief Operating Officer, steps into the CEO role with a clear vision. His mandate is to drive BlackDoctor’s growth, enhance its platform capabilities, and deepen its connection with the communities it serves. Reginald Ware, the founder who has led the company since its inception, will transition to the role of Executive Chairman of the Board.
Ware expressed his confidence in Garrett, stating, “Over the last year, Aki has played a transformative role in shaping the future of BlackDoctor. Through his strong performance, visible leadership and forward-looking vision, Aki has earned the title of CEO. He knows our mission, our audience and what it takes to win.”
Garrett’s Vision for BlackDoctor
Garrett shared his enthusiasm for the new role: “I am truly humbled and honored to be appointed as the next CEO of BlackDoctor. Our mission remains the same — to ensure that every Black family thrives in health — but the way we deliver on that mission will continue to evolve under my leadership. We are building BlackDoctor into a true 360-degree platform, one that brings together technology, innovative tools, industry-leading content, and live experiences to directly meet the needs of patients, healthcare providers, caregivers, and the broader health community.”
Under Garrett’s operational leadership, BlackDoctor has already seen significant transformation. This includes rebuilding the executive team, relaunching the brand, establishing a unique Medical Advisory Board, and introducing AI-powered patient and physician engagement tools. The company is experiencing strong momentum, with revenue projected to grow approximately 30% year-over-year.
Aggressive Growth and Expansion Plans
Garrett has outlined an ambitious agenda for the coming year. BlackDoctor plans to launch a clinical trials patient recruitment product, host its first Virtual Clinical Trials Summit, debut the BlackDoctor House of Health at the Cannes Festival of Creativity, and present the inaugural BlackDoctor Health Equity Film Festival. Strategic partnerships with leading Black professional medical associations are also in the works.
The company’s foundation is built on over 20 years of trust and relationships within the Black community, serving millions of patients and healthcare providers. BlackDoctor is uniquely positioned as the only platform designed from the ground up to cater to the specific needs of the Black American health market, a demographic representing significant healthcare spend and often underserved by digital health solutions.
