Talk about a heartwarming moment! In a truly special display of appreciation, students at Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma decided to honor their principal, Kirk Moore, in the most fitting way possible ā by crowning him prom king!
A Crown Earned Through Courage
This incredible gesture comes just days after Principal Moore displayed extraordinary bravery. On April 7th, an armed intruder, identified as Victor Lee Hawkins, entered the school with two semi-automatic handguns and began firing, ordering everyone to the ground.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Moore charged at the gunman. During the struggle, he was shot in the leg but continued to fight. With the crucial help of another staff member, they managed to disarm Hawkins before a potential mass tragedy could unfold.
Students Recognize True Heroism
The prom night celebration captured the essence of the students’ gratitude. As Moore entered the room, he was met with cheers, high-fives, and thunderous applause. The lyrics playing at the moment of his crowning perfectly captured the sentiment: ‘And they say that a hero can save us / Iām not going to stand here and wait.’
Hawkins, 20, was arrested and faces serious charges, including shooting with intent to kill. Authorities have confirmed that Moore’s swift and courageous actions likely prevented a much larger disaster. The students recognized that their principal wasn’t just an administrator; he was a true hero who acted decisively when it mattered most.

Being crowned prom king is a symbol of the respect and admiration Moore has earned from his student body. It’s a powerful reminder that courage, selflessness, and quick thinking can make an immeasurable difference.
