Cardi B & Mayor Mamdani Launch Free Childcare Jingle Contest

Get ready, New York! Rapper Cardi B and NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani have teamed up for an exciting new initiative: a citywide jingle contest to promote a groundbreaking free childcare program. This collaboration aims to get families excited about the new universal 2-K program, designed to support parents and their little ones.

A Program for Every Family

The core of this initiative is the new universal 2-K program, which will offer free childcare for 2-year-olds. What makes it truly special is that it’s open to all families, regardless of their income or immigration status. This means more parents, especially mothers who often bear the brunt of childcare responsibilities, can pursue career advancement or education without the financial strain.

In a video announcing the partnership, Cardi B, a vocal supporter of the Democratic party, expressed her enthusiasm. She highlighted the importance of such programs, stating, “Sometimes us women we can’t really go forward because we don’t have nobody to help us take care of our kids.” Mayor Mamdani, who is notably young at 34, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the goal of providing 2,000 seats starting this fall.

The Jingle Contest: Your Chance to Shine

To get the word out, the city is launching a jingle contest. New Yorkers are invited to submit original 15- and 30-second songs that capture the spirit of the free childcare program. Cardi B herself will be a judge, helping to narrow down the submissions before the public votes for the winning theme song. The winning jingle will receive radio play, giving the creator a chance to be heard across the city.

Mayor Mamdani quoted Cardi B’s hit song “Bodak Yellow” in a statement, saying, “As Cardi B says: ‘I can get ’em both. I don’t wanna choose.’ With universal child care, New Yorkers won’t have to.” He stressed that families will no longer have to choose between affordable care and living in the city they love.

  • Program offers free childcare for 2-year-olds.
  • Open to all income levels and immigration statuses.
  • 2,000 seats available starting Fall 2026.
  • Enrollment opens June 2nd and closes June 26th.
  • Jingle contest submissions due April 17th.
  • Winning jingle to be the official theme song with radio play.

The first 2,000 spots will be rolled out across four areas: Fordham in the Bronx, Washington Heights in Manhattan, Southeast Queens, and Canarsie in Brooklyn. This initiative marks a significant step towards making childcare more accessible and affordable for New York families.
