Don Lemon Considers 2028 Presidential Run

Get ready, because a familiar face is entering the political arena! Don Lemon, the former CNN anchor, has recently hinted that a run for the White House in 2028 is a possibility he’s considering. He’s not just thinking about it; he believes he could lead the country more effectively than Donald Trump.

A Presidential Ambition?

During a recent appearance on the “Pod Save America” podcast, Lemon admitted that while he doesn’t currently have presidential aspirations, the idea has crossed his mind. “It could happen,” he stated, but expressed reservations about the current political party system. He feels that to run effectively, he’d likely have to align with a party, possibly the Democrats, which he’s not ready to do yet.

Despite these hesitations, Lemon remains confident in his ability to govern. “I think I could be president of the United States. I could definitely run this country better than Donald Trump,” he asserted. His openness to public service, however, comes amidst personal challenges, including recently pleading not guilty to federal charges stemming from his presence at an anti-ICE demonstration.

Navigating Double Standards

Lemon also took the opportunity to discuss what he perceives as double standards in politics, particularly for minority candidates and women. He pointed out that the “rules are different” for him compared to white male candidates, citing instances where rhetoric from others hasn’t led to the same professional repercussions. “White men get away with way more than women, or Black people or any minority,” he argued.

He highlighted how figures like Hillary Clinton, Nikki Haley, and Kamala Harris face different scrutiny. Lemon believes that while he hasn’t engaged in the same kind of controversial behavior as some other public figures, his identity as a Black man means he operates under a different set of expectations and judgments within the political arena.

Open to the Future

Even with the perceived obstacles and his current legal situation, the veteran journalist remains open to the possibility of a future in public service. “Do I ever think about it? Yes. Could it happen? Yeah, it could happen if the right opportunity presented itself,” Lemon concluded. His willingness to consider a presidential run signals a potential new chapter in his career, moving from commentary to candidacy.
