Drake fans are eagerly awaiting his next project, “ICEMAN,” and the buzz around its direction is palpable. While Drake is known for his chart-topping club bangers, there’s a strong sentiment among supporters that they’d prefer more rap-focused tracks, especially following his recent lyrical battles. Now, a claim from rapper BenDaDonnn suggests that Drake might be listening.
Prioritizing Bars Over Bangers?
During a recent livestream with DDG, BenDaDonnn shared an interesting anecdote about the making of “ICEMAN.” He claims that Drake had a significant number of “turnt up club” tracks and songs geared towards “the ladies.” However, BenDaDonnn reportedly advised Drake, “Bro, we need some bars,” to which the Toronto rapper allegedly responded, “You know what, say no more.”
BenDaDonnn further alleges that he then helped Drake “scratch so much sh*t” from the album. This suggests a conscious effort to shift the album’s focus from radio-friendly hits to more lyrical, rap-centric content. Given the current landscape and the desire for Drake to re-establish his lyrical prowess, this alleged change in direction could be a significant move.
The Road to ‘ICEMAN’
BenDaDonnn mentioned hearing “six or seven” songs from “ICEMAN” and expressed that he was generally pleased with the project’s direction, despite the initial abundance of club tracks. This positive feedback is encouraging for fans hoping for a strong rap album.
However, the release of “ICEMAN” continues to be delayed. Several factors are reportedly contributing to the hold-up, including leaks, ongoing tracklist revisions, and Drake’s ongoing UMG lawsuit. Chris Blake Griffith has claimed that Drake is waiting for the legal matters to be settled before dropping the album, which could mean a further wait for fans.
What are your thoughts on BenDaDonnn’s claims about Drake’s ‘ICEMAN’ album? Do you prefer Drake’s club hits or his more lyrical tracks? Let us know in the comments!
