Rapper Desiigner Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge

Recording artist Desiigner, formerly signed to Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music, has been arrested on a charge of third-degree domestic violence in South Carolina. The Brooklyn rapper, whose real name is Sidney Royel Selby III, was taken into custody on Monday, March 23, following an alleged incident involving the mother of his child.

Allegations of Domestic Violence

According to reports, the incident occurred when Desiigner returned home. The victim alleged that he became angry, started yelling, and threw car keys. As she attempted to leave for an errand, she claimed he snatched the keys, ripping her sweatpants. She further alleged that he then grabbed their child, placed him in a car seat outside, and threw her to the ground when she tried to intervene. The victim reported sustaining minor scratches to her lower back and arm.

By the time police arrived at the scene, Desiigner had already left the residence. Authorities confirmed that the child did not witness the alleged incident. The mother of Desiigner’s child stated that the event was captured on video, though she could not access the camera system.

Legal History and Recent Activities

Desiigner was booked at 11:24 a.m. on Monday and released the following day at 1:08 p.m. after posting a $1,500 bond. He is scheduled for a bench trial on May 6. His mugshot has begun circulating on social media following the news of his arrest.

This is not Desiigner’s first encounter with the legal system. In 2023, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure on an aircraft after allegedly exposing himself and masturbating on a flight. He received two years of probation, 120 hours of community service, a $5,000 fine, and was required to publicly apologize to the flight attendants. He also faced drug and gun possession charges in 2016.

A Comeback Amidst Legal Troubles

Despite these legal challenges, Desiigner has been making a comeback in his music career. His latest song, humorously titled “Relax,” was released several weeks ago, accompanied by a music video. The rapper first gained widespread recognition for his independently released hit single “Panda,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015.
