Ever wished you could just stretch out and relax on a long flight, even in economy? United Airlines might have just answered your prayers! They’ve unveiled a game-changing new seating option called the ‘United Relax Row,’ designed to bring couch-like comfort to the skies.
Introducing the United Relax Row
Announced on March 24, the ‘Relax Row’ is essentially a full three-seater section that can be transformed into a lie-flat, couch-style area. Imagine having the whole row to yourself, complete with adjustable footrests, a mattress pad, a blanket, and two pillows. United is really aiming to make those long-haul journeys more comfortable.
United suggests this new offering is perfect for solo travelers seeking extra space, couples wanting to snuggle up, or even parents traveling with small children. While the exact dimensions haven’t been released, the airline is clearly trying to elevate the economy experience.
Rollout and Availability
This innovative seating won’t be available immediately. United plans to roll out the ‘Relax Row’ on over 200 widebody Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft between 2027 and 2030. Each plane will feature up to 12 of these ‘Relax Rows,’ strategically placed between United Economy and United Premium Plus sections.
United teased the concept on Instagram, saying, ‘You know that feeling when the plane door closes and you realize you get the full row to yourself? We made that a real thing.’ While booking details and pricing are still under wraps, the promise of a personal couch in the sky is certainly exciting.
Exclusive Features for Families and North America
For families traveling with little ones, the ‘Relax Row’ comes with added perks like a plush toy and a kid-friendly travel kit. United also proudly states that it holds ‘North American exclusivity’ on this unique seating design, making it the first airline on the continent to offer such an option.
Andrew Nocella, United’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized their commitment to innovation: ‘Customers traveling in United Economy on long-haul flights deserve an option for more space and comfort, and this is one way we can deliver that for them.’ This move positions United as a leader in offering new, industry-leading experiences.
