Shilo Sanders Returns to Jackson State

Shilo Sanders, former football standout at Jackson State University (JSU), recently returned to his alma mater for the first time since transferring to play alongside his father, Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders, at the University of Colorado. His visit wasn’t for football, but for a cause close to home: promoting prom safety among high school students in Mississippi.

A Return to JSU for a Good Cause

Sanders participated in the P.R.O.M. (Please Return On Monday) Promise event, hosted by JSU’s Metro Jackson Community Prevention Coalition on March 21. The event aimed to encourage hundreds of students from local Jackson Public Schools to make safe and responsible decisions during prom season. This visit marks a significant moment, as it’s his first time back on the JSU campus since his departure.

On Stage with the Sonic Boom of the South

During the event, Sanders took the stage alongside the university’s renowned marching band, the Sonic Boom of the South. Video clips shared on social media show him engaging in a one-on-one discussion with the audience, sharing his experiences and encouraging the young students. He also livestreamed his appearance on his Twitch channel, later posting the footage to YouTube, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at his return.

The footage captured his arrival on campus, interactions with school personnel, and his time on stage, including an impromptu catch-up with band members before their performance. It’s clear that despite moving on to a new chapter in his football career, Sanders maintains strong connections with his JSU community.

A Continued Connection

Even after leaving JSU, Sanders has shown continued support for his former teammates. Last June, he gifted the JSU football team new Apple Watches. While playing for Colorado, he started 19 games over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, accumulating 134 tackles, forcing five fumbles, and recording a sack and an interception returned for a touchdown. He followed his father, Coach Prime, to Boulder, where he is preparing for his fourth year.

Shilo Sanders’ return to Jackson State highlights the lasting impact of his time there and his commitment to giving back to the community that shaped him. His message of safety and responsibility resonates deeply, especially during a time as significant as prom season.
