Get ready, Broadway! The iconic “Hot Girl” Megan Thee Stallion is trading her mic for the stage, and the first look is absolutely stunning. Producers have just released photos of Megan embodying the role of Harold Zidler in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” and she’s making history while doing it.
A Historic Broadway Debut
These newly released images offer a captivating glimpse of Megan’s transformation into the flamboyant Parisian nightclub impresario. Her Broadway debut is set to begin on March 24th at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre for a limited eight-week engagement, concluding on May 17th. This run comes as the show heads into its final months on Broadway, closing July 26th.
What makes this debut even more significant? Megan Thee Stallion is officially the first female-identifying performer to ever play the role of Zidler in any production of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” worldwide. The character, famously portrayed by Jim Broadbent in the 2001 film, has previously been brought to life on stage by talents like Danny Burstein, Tituss Burgess, Boy George, and Wayne Brady.
Embracing a New Challenge
Megan expressed her excitement and honor about joining the “Moulin Rouge!” team. She stated, “I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace.” She acknowledged the unique demands of Broadway, noting the discipline, preparation, and storytelling required, but she’s ready for the challenge and eager for her fans, the “Hotties,” to see this new side of her.
Producer Carmen Pavlovic echoed the enthusiasm, calling Megan a “true global superstar” and a “force of nature.” Pavlovic sees Megan’s casting as a thrilling part of the show’s farewell celebration, aiming for a “spectacular bang” as the production concludes its run. Megan is taking over the role from Bob the Drag Queen, who finishes his limited engagement on March 22nd.
