A tragic sequence of events unfolded in Alaska involving an Arizona man recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. Matthew Becker, 61, allegedly traveled thousands of miles to Anchorage, where he reportedly attacked his ex-wife at her hair salon before fatally shooting his former father-in-law at his residence. Becker was later found dead in a wooded area.
Salon Shooting and Father-in-Law’s Death
The incident began on Saturday when Becker allegedly waited outside his ex-wife’s hair salon in Anchorage before opening fire. Authorities report that she survived the attack by running towards nearby businesses for safety. Following the salon shooting, investigators believe Becker proceeded to the home of his former father-in-law, 87-year-old Romaine Clark, in the Airport Heights area. Officials suspect Becker shot Clark through a rear window, and Clark later succumbed to his injuries.
Becker was facing charges of first-degree murder and third-degree assault prior to his own death. The couple had divorced in 2020. Becker’s ex-wife reportedly informed investigators that she feared for her father’s safety after escaping the initial shooting at the salon. Friends of Clark mentioned he had plans for an outing that day and was discovered before police arrived at the scene.
Becker Found Dead; Cause of Death Unknown
One day after the shootings, Becker was reportedly found deceased in a wooded area in Eagle River. His brother confirmed the discovery but stated that the cause of Becker’s death remains unknown, and authorities have not released further details. It has been reported that Becker had recently received a terminal cancer diagnosis, but officials have not clarified when this diagnosis occurred or if it played a role in the events.
Becker, who previously worked as a stand-up comedian and owned a comedy club called Chuckleheads in Bisbee, Arizona, leaves behind a complex history. The circumstances surrounding his death and its connection to his terminal cancer diagnosis are still under investigation.
