Get ready, because 50 Cent is dropping his highly anticipated documentary on Sean Combs, titled “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” on Netflix December 2nd. Ahead of its release, 50 sat down with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America to discuss the project and his motivations.
More Than Just a Feud
With the recent criminal trial where Diddy was found guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution, many assumed 50 Cent’s personal feud with the Bad Boy mogul was the driving force behind the documentary. However, 50 clarified that it’s not personal.
“It’s not personal,
It’s not personal — 50 Cent
he told Roberts, as reported by The New York Times. Instead, 50 explained that he felt a responsibility to the hip-hop community to speak out.
Setting an Example for Hip-Hop
50 Cent believes that if he remained silent, it could be interpreted as the hip-hop culture condoning such behavior. “If I didn’t say anything, you would interpret it as Hip-Hop is fine with his behaviors,” he stated. He felt that without a vocal opposition, the entire culture might register as being in agreement with problematic actions.
He emphasized the lack of other prominent voices speaking out, suggesting that his documentary aims to fill that void and encourage accountability within the industry.
Revealing Never-Before-Seen Footage
The documentary promises to include exclusive content, such as never-before-seen footage of Diddy interacting with his legal team. In one clip, Diddy is heard expressing frustration, saying, “Listen to me. I’m gonna get off the phone right now, and I am going to let you professionals look at the situation and come back to me with a solution. Y’all are not working together the right way. We’re losing.”
Another clip shows Diddy asking for hand sanitizer after meeting fans in Harlem, explaining, “I need some hand sanitizer. I’ve been on the streets, amongst the people. Yeah, I gotta take a bath. The amount of people that actually, I’m coming in contact with, that’s what I have to do.” 50 Cent shared this footage to highlight Diddy’s character, noting it as a moment where Diddy seemed to forget he was being recorded.
