Bryan-Michael Cox Addresses Usher’s Lawsuit

News recently broke that music superstar Usher is taking legal action over a failed restaurant venture, and his long-time friend and producer, Bryan-Michael Cox, has found himself named in the lawsuit. This development has naturally led to questions about the status of their nearly three-decade-long friendship.

The Lawsuit Details

According to court documents filed on November 14th, Usher reportedly loaned $1.7 million towards a restaurant project in Atlanta. When the project stalled with no visible progress months later, Usher allegedly sought reimbursement. The lawsuit names Bryan-Michael Cox, along with Keith Thomas, Charles Hughes, and attorney Alcide Honoré, accusing them of mishandling the loaned funds.

While the group has reportedly sent Usher a partial repayment of $1 million, he is still seeking the remaining $700,000. Furthermore, Usher is pursuing $4.9 million in damages, citing claims of fraud, conversion, unjust enrichment, and breach of contract.

Cox Responds: Friendship Intact

Given Cox’s history producing hit Usher tracks like ‘U Got It Bad’ and ‘Burn,’ social media buzzed with speculation about how this legal battle might affect their personal relationship. However, Bryan-Michael Cox took to Instagram to set the record straight.

He emphatically stated, ‘My 27-year friendship with @usher remains fully intact.’ Cox shared that he has learned valuable lessons about choosing business partners carefully, noting that he is caught in a ‘failed deal that I didn’t orchestrate.’ He expressed disappointment that clarity didn’t come sooner but is confident his name will be cleared.

A Passive Role

Cox further clarified his involvement, explaining that his legal team advised him regarding a lawsuit involving a company where he holds only a ‘passive minority shareholder’ status. He emphasized that he was not an active participant in the business transaction and has no involvement in the ongoing legal process. While unable to share further details, he expressed gratitude for the concern shown by those who have reached out.
