Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson isn’t holding back after two former NBA players used offensive language to discuss his relationship with Megan Thee Stallion while critiquing his recent performance. Thompson is pushing back against the disrespectful commentary, especially coming from fellow athletes.
Podcast Controversy Sparks Outrage
The controversy ignited following an episode of the “Hoopin’ N Hollerin’” podcast, which aired on November 4th. During the discussion about Thompson’s reduced production this season – a situation that led to him being shifted to a bench role – former players Patrick Beverley and Jason Williams turned the conversation to his personal life.
Williams, a veteran of 12 NBA seasons, reportedly used vulgar language to refer to Megan Thee Stallion while questioning whether her relationship with Thompson was impacting his play. This remark quickly drew significant backlash once the clip began circulating on social media.
Thompson’s Strong Response
Klay Thompson himself didn’t stay silent. He took to social media to tag Beverley and condemn the offensive language used to describe his girlfriend. In a sharp comment, Thompson wrote, “Referring to my GF as a (expletive) is so disgusting and disturbing. Especially from someone who played in the NBA.”
He continued, posing a rhetorical question to the former players: “How would yall feel if I referred to your wives in such a way? @patbev21 Do better fellas. Very disappointing.” Thompson and Megan Thee Stallion publicly confirmed their relationship in July after months of speculation.
A Challenging Season On Court
On the court, Thompson is indeed navigating a statistically challenging season. He’s currently averaging a career-low 8.5 points per game on 32% shooting from the field, including a mere 28.9% from beyond the arc. This season marks his second year with the Dallas Mavericks after signing a three-year, $50 million deal, concluding his long tenure with the Golden State Warriors before the 2024-25 season.
