AT&T Data Breach Settlement: Are You Eligible?

Did you have AT&T service? If so, you might be eligible for a piece of a $177 million settlement aimed at resolving claims from two major data breaches. But you’ll need to act fast, because the deadline to file your claim is fast approaching!

What Happened? The AT&T Data Breaches

AT&T has agreed to this settlement following two separate data incidents. The first, a 2019 breach that wasn’t publicly disclosed until March 30, 2024, saw hackers release sensitive customer information onto the dark web. This included names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, account passcodes, billing numbers, and even Social Security numbers.

A second breach, disclosed on July 12, 2024, involved the illegal download of more limited data on April 14, 2024. This incident exposed customer details and phone numbers, and potentially call data like numbers called, interaction counts, and aggregate call durations. For a small number of individuals, cell site identification numbers were also exposed.

Who is Eligible for the Settlement?

The settlement covers two main groups of affected individuals. First, the AT&T 1 Settlement Class includes those whose data was compromised in the 2019 breach. Second, the AT&T 2 Settlement Class comprises individuals affected by the April 2024 breach.

The amount you could receive depends on how many people file claims. The more claims submitted, the smaller the individual payout will be. For the AT&T 1 Settlement Class, potential payouts could reach up to $5,000. This can be a Documented Loss Cash Payment or one of two tiered payments, with those whose Social Security Numbers were stolen receiving five times the Tier 2 payment.

Members of the AT&T 1 class need to provide documentation for traceable losses incurred since 2019. For the AT&T 2 Settlement Class, potential payouts are up to $2,500. These can be a Documented Loss Cash Payment (requiring proof of losses on or after April 14, 2024) or a Tier 3 Cash Payment.

It’s important to note that AT&T has not admitted any wrongdoing or liability as part of this settlement. If your data was impacted in both incidents, you can submit separate claims for each.

The Crucial Deadline: December 18, 2025

Mark your calendars! The deadline to submit your claim form, along with any necessary documentation, is Thursday, December 18, 2025. You can file online or mail your claim, but it must be postmarked by this date.

If you wish to opt out of the settlement but keep your right to pursue other legal action, you must mail your opt-out request by Monday, November 17, 2025. The same date applies if you plan to object to the settlement or attend the final approval hearing.

The final approval hearing is scheduled for January 15, 2026. Settlement distributions will only occur after the judge grants final approval and any potential appeals are resolved.
