Yaya Mayweather, daughter of boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, is speaking out about a past incident. She’s issued a public apology for her role in the 2020 stabbing of Lapattra Jacobs, the mother of her ex-boyfriend NBA YoungBoy’s child.
Reflecting on Past Actions
In 2022, Mayweather received a six-year probation sentence for the stabbing, which allegedly occurred after she went to NBA YoungBoy’s Houston home and found Jacobs there. The situation reportedly escalated into a physical altercation over the rapper.
Now, Mayweather is sharing her reflections and remorse. In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on November 4th, she addressed Jacobs and her family, expressing regret for her actions and her desire to grow as a person.
An Open Letter of Apology
Mayweather began her open letter by stating, “I’m a young woman that’s growing. Yes, I’ve made mistakes along [the way], but I’m striving to be better every day.” She extended apologies to her parents, Floyd and Melissa Brim, and specifically to Lapattra Jacobs. While she maintained that the incident involved self-defense, she still apologized for any hurt caused.
She insisted that she is not the “stuck-up, entitled, spoiled little rich girl” that some may perceive her to be. Mayweather expressed a strong desire to correct her past wrongs and show her true self, especially for the sake of her son, Kentrell DeSean Gaulden Jr., with whom she shares with NBA YoungBoy. She credited her parents for raising her well, emphasizing that her choices don’t reflect their upbringing.
The Legal Aftermath
Mayweather pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2022. Court documents and a YouTube video shared by Jacobs after the 2020 incident showed stab wound injuries to her right arm, which appeared to corroborate the prosecution’s claims that Mayweather used two knives during the altercation.
