It seems political disagreements aren’t just happening in Washington D.C. lately. U.S. Senator Tim Scott has publicly called out fellow South Carolina Republican, U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, following a reported expletive-filled outburst at Charleston International Airport. The incident reportedly involved Mace name-dropping Senator Scott during a heated exchange with airport police.
Scott Distances Himself from Mace’s Airport Meltdown
According to reports, Mace berated airport staff, allegedly calling them “f–king incompetent” and stating that security “would never treat Tim Scott like this.” This comparison clearly didn’t sit well with Senator Scott, who issued a public statement addressing the situation. He expressed that for reasons unclear to him, Mace invoked his name during and after the airport encounter.
Scott, who has represented South Carolina in the Senate since 2013, highlighted his own consistently positive and respectful interactions with airport police. He noted that these officers, who are currently working without pay due to the government shutdown, often go above and beyond, and he is grateful for the extra security precautions they take for him, acknowledging the threats he has received over the years.
Condemning Profanity and Disrespect
In his statement, Senator Scott made it clear that he does not condone the behavior. “Those who know me know that I do not use profanity – in public or private. It is never acceptable to berate police officers, airport staff, and TSA agents who are simply doing their jobs, nor is it becoming of a Member of Congress to use such vulgar language when dealing with constituents,” he stated.
Scott emphasized the reciprocal nature of their roles, stating, “I follow their lead, do what they ask, and respect the many responsibilities these officers have to balance.” He added that lawmakers take an oath to represent these officers, and “We work for them, not vice versa.” He urged anyone considering invoking his name to reflect his own respectful conduct towards law enforcement and fellow travelers.
Mace’s Political Stance and Future Plans
The incident report details Mace’s assertion that she was not treated appropriately as a “f–king U.S. representative.” Amidst public criticism, Mace, who is currently running for governor of South Carolina, has announced her intention to sue American Airlines and the Charleston International Airport for defamation and false reporting. Known as a conservative firebrand, Mace has previously engaged in notable public exchanges, including a tense moment with Rep. Jasmine Crockett.
