Power Book IV: Force Stars on Season Finale

As ‘Power Book IV: Force’ gears up for its explosive season finale, stars Joseph Sikora (Tommy Egan) and Isaac Keys (Diamond Sampson) are reflecting on the journey. They sat down for an exclusive interview to discuss the challenges of wrapping up the high-stakes crime drama, which centers on loyalty, love, and ambition in Chicago.

Landing the Plane

With the show heading into its final episodes, the actors are embracing the pressure of bringing the story to a satisfying close. Showrunner Gary Lennon fittingly described this phase as ‘landing the plane,’ a sentiment that deeply resonated with both Sikora and Keys. Keys noted that while his character, Diamond, might have a slightly ‘lower plane’ in terms of screen time compared to Tommy, the focus remained on understanding and embodying the character’s core throughout the seasons.

Keys shared, “By season three, I knew exactly who Diamond [Sampson] is, what he wants, how he moves, even how he responds. The pressure was welcome. Whatever the character needed, I was open for it. It’s about the character and it’s about the show.”

Trust and Collaboration Behind the Scenes

Sikora, who has played the iconic Tommy Egan since the original ‘Power’ series, emphasized the collaborative spirit behind the scenes. He highlighted the trust between himself, Keys, and the show’s creative team, including showrunner Gary Lennon. “Behind the scenes, there’s a lot of trust,” Sikora stated. “There’s a lot of trust between Isaac and I and Gary [Lennon], between Gary and his directors and his writers. He really sets up a community of support.”

Sikora sees himself as the ‘steward of Tommy,’ but also acknowledges Lennon’s significant influence on the character’s development. He expressed his excitement for how fans, especially those in Chicago, will react to the season’s conclusion.

Tommy’s Softer Side and Romantic Patterns

Beyond the gritty gunplay and power struggles, Sikora delved into Tommy’s surprisingly sentimental side, particularly his romantic entanglements. He described Tommy as a ‘serial monogamist,’ constantly seeking to fill an ‘insatiable hole’ stemming from his upbringing. Sikora theorizes that Tommy’s first kill might have been to protect his mother, a trauma that continues to drive him.

He traced Tommy’s romantic history—from Holly to Lakeisha to his current love interest, Mireya—as a search for loyalty. Sikora explained how each relationship solidified Tommy’s understanding of who he could truly count on, culminating in Mireya’s declaration of commitment, which made her his ‘ride or die.’

Diamond’s Path to Peace

For Isaac Keys, Diamond Sampson’s journey this season has been less about romance and more about brotherhood and finding closure. Keys stated, “I knew who Diamond was this season. It was about honoring him; his growth, his conflicts, and the code he lives by. At this point, it’s about finding peace with the choices he’s made.”

Both actors expressed pride in the work they’ve accomplished together, hoping that the fans feel the same connection to the characters’ growth. ‘Power Book IV: Force’ Season 3 premieres Friday, November 7th, on Starz.
