Atlanta has a mayor for the next four years! Andre Dickens has officially won his reelection bid, securing more than 50 percent of the vote in a crowded four-way race on November 4th. This victory is a clear testament to his hard work and favorability among Atlanta residents over the past four years.
A Victory Speech Focused on Unity and Action
In his acceptance speech, posted on social media, Mayor Dickens expressed gratitude, giving special shoutouts to his predecessors like Maynard Jackson, Andrew Young, Shirley Franklin, and Kaseem Reid. He emphasized that his first term was a “group project of Atlanta,” crediting his staff, volunteers, and city workers for their dedication.
Dickens didn’t shy away from addressing broader national issues, including the current government shutdown. He strongly criticized the administration’s priorities, particularly the decision to remodel the White House while citizens face the loss of essential benefits like SNAP. He declared that cities like Atlanta will step up to support their people when the federal government falters.
A Track Record of Progress
Mayor Dickens ran his reelection campaign on a solid track record of resident-centered initiatives. During his tenure, Atlanta saw a remarkable 46 percent drop in violent crime between 2023 and 2024. Furthermore, over half of his goal of 20,000 affordable housing units are either under construction or already completed, with successful programs for the unhoused also making a significant impact.
The city has also seen innovative projects like Azalea Fresh, Atlanta’s first municipal grocery store, launched in partnership with Invest Atlanta. Dickens proudly stated, “The city got stabilized during my term, unified during my term, and is on a path that everybody can want to come here to raise a family.”
Atlanta’s Rising Star
Atlanta’s growing appeal is reflected in its national rankings, including being named the “No. 1 Smartest City” and “No. 1 Most Educated City.” With Mayor Andre Dickens at the helm for another term, residents can look forward to continued growth and development in the city they call home.
