ASAP Rocky Sued for $1M Over Condo Flood

It seems ASAP Rocky is facing more than just album demands and legal battles with fellow artists. The rapper is now embroiled in a new lawsuit, with a neighbor claiming that a flood originating from his luxury New York City condo has caused extensive damage, leaving their unit ‘completely uninhabitable.’

A $1.1 Million Lawsuit Filed

According to The Independent, Chez Ni LLC has filed a $1.1 million lawsuit in Manhattan County Supreme Court against Rakim Athelaston Mayers, professionally known as ASAP Rocky. The suit alleges that his $11 million condo is the source of a severe flood that caused significant damage to the unit directly below it.

The lawsuit points to alleged negligence by both ASAP Rocky, as the owner of Unit 5N, and a contractor, ADE Pro Painting, who was reportedly working in his condo at the time of the incident last December. The core of the claim is that several hot water pipes in or around Rocky’s unit burst, causing a massive amount of water to flood into the unit below and potentially others.

Allegations of Negligence and Frozen Pipes

The lawsuit details a concerning sequence of events. It’s alleged that an employee from ADE Pro Painting opened all the windows in ASAP Rocky’s condo to ventilate fumes from the work being done. Despite the outside temperature being below freezing, the employee allegedly left without closing the windows.

Further complicating matters, a third-party contractor reportedly discovered that radiator supply valves had been left closed, and crucially, no return valves had been installed. The lawsuit claims this created a hazardous situation where water trapped in the pipes froze, causing them to crack. When the ice thawed, the water gushed out, leading to the massive flooding because there was no way for it to return.
