Man Arrested in Women’s Locker Room Disguised as Woman

Authorities in Maryland have arrested a 44-year-old man accused of a disturbing pattern of behavior: disguising himself as a woman to enter women’s locker rooms and record unsuspecting individuals. The suspect, Tshikundi Taty, now faces multiple charges related to unlawful surveillance.

Undercover Operation Leads to Arrest

The arrest occurred on October 29 in Montgomery County. According to The Washington Post, undercover police officers followed Taty into a women’s locker room at a local health club, where they discovered him in disguise. This operation was part of an investigation into allegations that Taty had recorded at least four women in shower areas across two different fitness clubs in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

Taty has been charged with two counts of video surveillance with “prurient intent” and two counts of “peeping tom” violations. Police officials have expressed concern that there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward.

Court Proceedings and Potential Penalties

During an initial court hearing on October 20, prosecutors presented photos of Taty in women’s clothing following his arrest. They requested that he be held without bond, citing him as a danger to the community. Taty’s defense attorney argued for his release, emphasizing that Taty is the sole provider for his wife and two young children and that the alleged crimes were not violent.

However, Judge Aileen Oliver sided with the prosecution, deeming Taty a public safety risk and highlighting the importance of people feeling safe at places like the gym. Taty faces potential jail time ranging from 30 days to a year, along with fines between $500 and $2,500 for the surveillance charges. He also faces separate charges in Prince George’s County. His next court date is scheduled for November 14.
