Former NFL All-Pro safety Reshad Jones has achieved a significant legal victory, securing a $9.5 million settlement from Merrill Lynch. The settlement comes after Jones accused his former advisor, Isaiah T. Williams, of misappropriating approximately $2.6 million of his funds.
Allegations of Advisor Misconduct
The agreement, finalized on August 14 and recently appearing on Williams’ regulatory record, followed an initial arbitration filing where Jones sought around $16 million in damages. Jones’ claims included allegations of unsuitable asset allocation, misrepresentations, unauthorized use of funds, and improper outside business activities by his advisor. Williams, who was employed by Merrill Lynch from 2017 to late 2024, is accused of orchestrating a scheme to siphon funds from Jones.
Court and police records indicate that Williams allegedly made over 130 unauthorized transactions totaling approximately $1.6 million from Jones’ Bank of America account between January 2022 and March 2024. Furthermore, it’s alleged that Williams, with the help of an accomplice named Octavia Graham, laundered about $1 million of the stolen funds. The records suggest Williams used the misappropriated money for various personal expenses, including airline tickets, hotel stays with multiple women, car rentals, nightclub visits, strip club expenses, child support payments, legal fees, designer clothing, and personal jewelry.
Legal Action and Accountability
Williams was arrested in June 2025 by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in Florida and subsequently released on a $1 million bond. He faces indictment on four counts, including first-degree organized fraud and first-degree grand theft, with potential penalties of up to 30 years in prison for each charge.
Jones’ legal team, comprised of attorneys Chase Carlson of Carlson Law and Jeff Sonn of Sonn Law Group, previously issued a statement characterizing the case as ‘another troubling example of a professional athlete being exploited by a wealth-management firm he trusted.’ They stressed that the alleged wrongdoer was a vice president at a major financial institution and that the lawsuit aimed to hold Merrill Lynch accountable for the damages Jones suffered.
Jones’ NFL Career and Earnings
During his 10-season career with the Miami Dolphins from 2010 to 2019, Reshad Jones earned over $58 million. He recorded an impressive 776 tackles, 21 interceptions, 10.5 sacks, and two fumble-recovery touchdowns, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections along the way. His financial success on the field makes the alleged exploitation by his advisor particularly disheartening.
