The question on many minds is: will there be another federal stimulus check in 2025? Unfortunately, as of mid-October, there are no confirmed plans for new federal payments. Any widespread relief would require approval from Congress, and so far, lawmakers have not authorized a fourth round of stimulus payments.
Federal vs. State Relief Efforts
While the federal government hasn’t announced new stimulus checks, some states have stepped up to provide their own forms of relief. New York is sending out one-time inflation refund checks of up to $400 to over 8 million residents. In New Jersey, the Treasury Department is issuing property-tax relief payments to nearly 300,000 residents, including renters.
Texas, however, is taking a different approach. Unlike New York, Texas does not collect a personal income tax, which limits its ability to offer income-based rebates. Instead, the state focuses its relief efforts on property-tax reductions and energy rebate programs. Governor Greg Abbott previously signed an $18 billion property-tax relief package in 2023, the largest in state history, and lawmakers passed a similar plan in June 2025, with further cuts potentially up for approval in November.
What About Former President Trump’s Proposal?
Former President Donald Trump had previously suggested rebate payments, potentially funded by tariffs or a plan from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which could amount to around $5,000 per taxpayer. However, officials have not released any specific details or timelines, and no formal action has been taken on this proposal.
Stay Informed on Potential Relief
With no new federal stimulus or inflation-related payments announced by the IRS or Texas officials, residents are advised to stay vigilant. It’s important to monitor official guidance from government sources for any updates on potential relief programs. Keep an eye on announcements from the IRS and your state’s treasury department for the most accurate information.
