Sean “Diddy” Combs faces further legal repercussions following his recent sentencing in a federal prostitution-related case. The music mogul has been ordered to hand over his infamous “freak-off” tapes and other digital items containing footage of sexual acts to the FBI. This order comes after he was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and sentenced to 50 months in federal prison, including time served.
Surrender of Digital Evidence
According to AllHipHop, Combs must relinquish multiple laptops, hard drives, USB sticks, iPhones, iPads, and notably, the “Ibiza Tapes” – footage recorded during a 1996 trip to Ibiza. He must also forfeit $9,000 in cash that was found on him during his September 2024 arrest. These materials, currently in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, are considered “property used or intended to be used” in connection with Combs’ criminal activities.
The “freak-off” tapes played a significant role during Combs’ trial. While he was acquitted of federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges, the tapes were central to testimony from ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and an unnamed witness. They alleged that Combs used threats to leak sexually explicit footage to coerce participation in “freak-offs,” which reportedly involved hired male sex workers and extensive drug use.
Legal Battles and Sentencing
The materials were initially seized during highly publicized raids on Combs’ properties in California and Florida in March 2024. Despite the conviction on prostitution-related offenses, Combs maintains that all sexual encounters were consensual and is appealing his conviction to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. His request to serve his sentence in a minimum-security New Jersey facility for rehabilitation and proximity to family was denied by the judge.
