Tired of endless scrolling through destinations and flight options? American Airlines is introducing a game-changing AI tool that lets you book flights based on your desired vacation “vibe,” rather than just where you want to go. This innovative feature promises a more personalized and intuitive travel planning experience.
Search by Experience, Not Just Destination
Imagine searching for flights by describing the kind of trip you want. With American Airlines’ new Generative AI-powered tool, you can! Instead of inputting specific airports, you can type in prompts like, “I want to go on a seven-day trip with friends where we can explore during the day and enjoy ourselves during the night with good food.” Or perhaps, “I want to take a beach vacation in February and spend less than $500 on flights.”
The AI tool will then process your request and suggest curated destinations that match your described experience. These recommendations are informed by real travel trends, customer preferences, and current fare information available on American Airlines’ network. The goal is to move from “starting with an idea and ending with a boarding pass” in a more seamless way.
Budget-Friendly and Time-Saving
This new feature is designed not only to personalize the booking process but also to save travelers time and help them stay within budget. If you specify a price range in your search, the AI will populate flight options that fit your financial parameters. Recommendations that fall outside your stated budget will be clearly marked with an “over budget” identifier.
Anshuman Singh, American Airlines’ Managing Director of Customer Experience – Digital Transformation, explained during a virtual demonstration that the airline is observing user prompts to understand travel desires better. “People are more and more wanting to look for experiences when they travel,” he noted, highlighting the shift from traditional origin-and-destination searches to experience-focused planning.
Rollout and Future Availability
The AI travel tool is currently available to 50% of users on the American Airlines website, with full online availability expected within the coming weeks, provided usage remains stable. A version of the tool will also be launched on the airline’s mobile app, further enhancing accessibility for travelers on the go.
