Druski’s Whiteface NASCAR Skit Sparks Backlash

Internet comedy star Druski, known for his hilarious skits, is currently facing backlash for his recent NASCAR-themed ‘whiteface’ performance. The skit, titled ‘That Guy who is just Proud to be AMERICAN,’ features Druski in full whiteface, complete with denim overalls, a cowboy hat, a brown mullet, and a painted-on American flag tattoo.

A Polarizing Portrayal

In the video, Druski fully embodies the character, cheering at a NASCAR race, sharing beer with white attendees, singing Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born In The U.S.A.,’ and even interacting with an elderly white woman. He also engages in comedic interrogations of Black men attending the event and displays exaggerated patriotism during the national anthem. While many found the skit humorous, others have criticized it for potentially reinforcing negative stereotypes about Southern culture and NASCAR fans.

The skit has garnered attention from local news channels, and reactions on social media are divided. Some users praised Druski’s ability to ‘infiltrate’ and commented on the humor, while others felt the portrayal was offensive. Comedian Theo Von even suggested a reverse skit, tweeting, ‘I feel a jheri curl coming on.’

Druski Responds to the Backlash

In response to the criticism, Druski posted a video on Instagram showing him walking through a corporate building while smoking a cigarette, with James Brown’s ‘It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World’ playing in the background. Many commenters showed their support, finding the skit hilarious and defending the comedian.

This isn’t the first time Druski has explored ‘whiteface’ in his comedy. Earlier this year, he released a skit titled ‘The WhiteBoy that’s accepted by the Hood,’ which also generated discussion. It remains to be seen if this latest skit will have any lasting impact on his career, but his willingness to push boundaries in his comedy is evident.
