Kid Cudi has always been open about his personal struggles, weaving his experiences with addiction and mental health into his music. Now, he’s bringing that same raw honesty to his recently released memoir, “Cudi: The Memoir.” Since its publication on August 5, Cudi has been sharing more intimate details about his journey, including a surprising revelation about his past relationship with marijuana.
A Daily Battle with Weed
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, as reported by Billboard, Cudi disclosed the extent of his marijuana use. He revealed that he was smoking approximately 15 blunts a day before checking into rehab last November. “I was abusing it… I was smoking maybe 15 blunts a day, wake up in the mornings, get high…” he shared, admitting that the substance had begun to “rule my life.”
This level of consumption clearly impacted his life significantly, prompting him to seek professional help to find a healthier balance. It’s a stark reminder that even for those who seem to have it all together, personal battles with addiction are very real.
Finding Balance and Sobriety
Following his time in rehab, Kid Cudi was able to achieve a two-month period of sobriety. While he has since resumed smoking, his rehabilitation has equipped him with the tools to establish healthier boundaries. “And now I just get after it at night or on the weekends when I have the free time and I’m just relaxing,” he explained.
He noted a significant change in his relationship with marijuana, stating, “A joint lasts me all day, damn near.” Cudi expressed a desire to be more sober and present in his daily life, a goal that his recovery journey is helping him achieve. This shift has also positively impacted his acting career.
Positive Impact on Acting Career
Cudi shared that being sober on set has brought a new level of emotional depth to his performances. “it’s just something different when you’re on set and you’re sober and you can feel the emotions,” he said, referencing a recent movie where he found it easy to access emotions and cry multiple times. This newfound presence allows him to connect more profoundly with his roles.
