Get ready to raise a glass with Steph! Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is stepping into the hospitality world, partnering with acclaimed chef Michael Mina to open his very first bar, ‘The Eighth Rule,’ in San Francisco. The bourbon-centric venue is set to debut this October at The Westin St. Francis in Union Square.
A Dream of Bringing People Together
Curry, who has always been passionate about creating spaces for connection, shared his excitement: “To me, there’s nothing better than getting together with those you love over a glass of bourbon. That’s where the magic happens,” he said. “Creating my own bourbon brand paired with my friendship with Michael is like a master class in hospitality! I’ve always dreamt of creating my own little haven to bring people together, and now we have the perfect location.”
The bar’s name, ‘The Eighth Rule,’ is a nod to the seven official rules governing bourbon production. It invites patrons to create their own personal ‘rule’ for why and how they enjoy their drinks, emphasizing a personalized experience. Curry’s collaboration with Mina, which began over a decade ago when Mina partnered with Curry’s wife, Ayesha, is built on a foundation of trust and shared vision.
Mina Group’s San Francisco Roots
Michael Mina, who will also be unveiling his restaurant Bourbon Steak San Francisco at the same location, expressed his deep connection to the city. “I’ll never forget the first time I came to San Francisco as a child… I dreamt of living here one day, and I am beyond blessed to have defined my career as a chef and launched my company in the city that means so much to me,” Mina shared. He noted that The Westin St. Francis holds special significance as the site of his first Michelin Stars.
Mina Group will manage the day-to-day operations of ‘The Eighth Rule,’ ensuring Curry’s vision is brought to life seamlessly. “Opening alongside Stephen is the icing on the cake,” Mina added. “We believe in San Francisco, and we are committed to continuing to provide spaces where people can come and eat, drink, celebrate, and feel welcome.”
