  • Stephen Curry Opens ‘The Eighth Rule’ Bar in San Francisco

Get ready to raise a glass with Steph! Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is stepping into the hospitality world, partnering with acclaimed chef Michael Mina to open his very first bar, ‘The Eighth Rule,’ in San Francisco. The bourbon-centric venue is set to debut this October at The Westin St. Francis in Union Square.

A Dream of Bringing People Together

Curry, who has always been passionate about creating spaces for connection, shared his excitement: “To me, there’s nothing better than getting together with those you love over a glass of bourbon. That’s where the magic happens,” he said. “Creating my own bourbon brand paired with my friendship with Michael is like a master class in hospitality! I’ve always dreamt of creating my own little haven to bring people together, and now we have the perfect location.”

The bar’s name, ‘The Eighth Rule,’ is a nod to the seven official rules governing bourbon production. It invites patrons to create their own personal ‘rule’ for why and how they enjoy their drinks, emphasizing a personalized experience. Curry’s collaboration with Mina, which began over a decade ago when Mina partnered with Curry’s wife, Ayesha, is built on a foundation of trust and shared vision.

    Mina Group’s San Francisco Roots

Michael Mina, who will also be unveiling his restaurant Bourbon Steak San Francisco at the same location, expressed his deep connection to the city. “I’ll never forget the first time I came to San Francisco as a child… I dreamt of living here one day, and I am beyond blessed to have defined my career as a chef and launched my company in the city that means so much to me,” Mina shared. He noted that The Westin St. Francis holds special significance as the site of his first Michelin Stars.

Mina Group will manage the day-to-day operations of ‘The Eighth Rule,’ ensuring Curry’s vision is brought to life seamlessly. “Opening alongside Stephen is the icing on the cake,” Mina added. “We believe in San Francisco, and we are committed to continuing to provide spaces where people can come and eat, drink, celebrate, and feel welcome.”

Stephen Curry is taking his passion for bourbon to the next level! Building on his 2023 launch of Gentleman’s Cut Game Changer bourbon, the Golden State Warriors star is set to open a new upscale dining experience in San Francisco. This venture includes a Bourbon Steak restaurant and a reservations-only bar named Eighth Rule.

A Culinary Partnership in the City by the Bay

Curry is teaming up with renowned Chef Michael Mina for this exciting project, which will be located at the historic Westin St. Francis Hotel on Union Square. Mina, who already operates 11 other Bourbon Steak locations across the country, sees this collaboration as a significant opportunity. This marks a return to the location for Mina, who previously had a restaurant there that closed in 2016.

Mina expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, calling it “the icing on the cake” and emphasizing their belief in San Francisco’s potential. “We are committed to continuing to provide spaces where people can come and eat, drink, celebrate, and feel welcome,” he stated.

    Curry’s Vision for Hospitality

For Curry, this venture is a dream come true. He described the experience of creating his own bourbon brand alongside his friendship with Mina as a “master class in hospitality.” Curry shared his long-held aspiration to create a welcoming space for people to gather, and he believes the San Francisco location is perfect for this vision.

The Eighth Rule bar is designed to seat 40 patrons and will feature a dedicated bourbon lounge, staying open until 2 a.m. The restaurant’s menu promises a sophisticated dining experience, with offerings like crab cakes with red curry coconut sauce, shrimp and lobster cocktail, caviar, tomahawk steak, lobster pot pie, and various other delectable dishes. For dessert, guests can indulge in beignets or chocolate fondue.

    Contributing to San Francisco’s Comeback

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie highlighted the positive impact of this new establishment, noting that it “will contribute to our downtown comeback and add to our city’s vibrant food scene.” The opening is expected to create approximately 150 jobs, further boosting the city’s economy and culinary landscape.
