Context: Campus Life Amidst Capital Changes
This exciting recognition comes as Howard students return to campus during a period of significant change in Washington, D.C. President Trump’s administration has implemented a federal takeover of the city’s police department, deploying federal agents and National Guard troops. While framed as a crime response, this has led to a noticeable increase in security presence, impacting the city’s atmosphere.
This heightened presence has understandably made some students feel uneasy. One student shared with NPR that the increased visibility makes them hesitant to explore their surroundings, fearing potential missteps. Despite these external factors, the spirit on campus remains resilient, with students expressing confidence in their ability to navigate these times.
