  • Tyrese Gibson Seeks Primary Custody Amid Ex-Wife’s Relocation

It looks like Tyrese Gibson is heading back to court, this time over custody of his 7-year-old daughter, Soraya. The actor and singer is seeking primary custody after his ex-wife, Samantha Gibson, relocated with their daughter from Georgia to Oregon, a move spanning over 2,500 miles. This latest development adds another chapter to the ongoing legal battles between the former couple.

    The Relocation Dispute

According to reports, Tyrese filed court documents in October, accusing Samantha of moving Soraya without his full agreement. The couple, who were married from 2017 to 2020, have had a tumultuous relationship post-divorce, frequently navigating issues of custody and child support. Samantha was awarded primary custody of Soraya in 2023.

In an alleged letter dated August 13, Samantha informed Tyrese of her intention to move to Oregon, citing prayer, fasting, and a belief that God was leading her there. She stated her lease was up in September and she was planning an October move. Crucially, she added that she had “no desire to interfere with Soraya’s relationship with her father” and proposed a plan for more quality time, while also respecting Soraya’s education and stability.

    Tyrese’s Objections and Concerns

Tyrese, however, strongly objected to the timing and nature of the proposed move. He texted his ex-wife in September, stating, “No, Samantha. No way. No how. I do not agree.” He argued that their previous child support agreement was specifically tied to Soraya remaining in Atlanta and its surrounding areas, allowing him to be an active parent. He viewed any attempt to interpret this as consent for a cross-country move as manipulative and contrary to Georgia law.

Adding to his concerns, Tyrese pointed out that the move would occur less than a month after a new child support agreement was finalized. This agreement had already reduced his monthly child support payments from $10,000 in 2022 to $5,550. He also emphasized the importance of family stability for Soraya, especially with her older sister graduating high school in Atlanta. Furthermore, Tyrese mentioned he was grieving the recent deaths of his parents, making the move particularly difficult.

If God is leading you to Portland, then He is leading you — not Soraya. You are free to go, but our daughter will remain in Atlanta, where her life, her stability, her sister, and her father are. — Tyrese Gibson (via text)

    Samantha’s Counterclaims

Samantha Gibson has since filed a response to Tyrese’s lawsuit, which includes a counterclaim alleging contempt of court. She asserts that Tyrese has not been actively involved in picking up or dropping off Soraya for his parenting time. Furthermore, she claims that he frequently delegates nearly all parenting duties to a nanny, even sending Soraya to the nanny’s house during his parenting time so he can sleep, as he apparently spends his nights in a music studio.

What are your thoughts on this custody situation? Do you believe Tyrese’s concerns about stability are valid, or does Samantha have the right to relocate? Share your opinions in the comments below!

  • First Black Rockette Jennifer Jones’ Audition Story

For a century, the Radio City Rockettes have been synonymous with dazzling precision, iconic costumes, and unforgettable high kicks. But behind the glitz and glamour, history was being made. Jennifer Jones, now 58, didn’t just master the choreography; she shattered a 62-year barrier, becoming the first Black Rockette in the troupe’s storied history.

    An Audition Almost Missed

Interestingly, Jones never initially set out to be a history-maker. When she moved to New York City in the mid-1980s, her sights were set on Broadway, inspired by childhood trips to see shows like ‘The Wiz.’ She recalled wanting to be like Stephanie Mills. So, when she first saw an advertisement for a Rockette audition, she almost passed it by.

It was a friend who convinced her to even consider it. Jones admitted she wasn’t entirely sure who the Rockettes were or what they did. Her friend insisted she’d be a great fit, and Jones saw it as a valuable opportunity to gain audition experience for her ultimate Broadway goal, even though she felt she was still ‘green.’

    From Callback to History Maker

Jones auditioned, got a callback, and then waited for months with no news. The call finally came unexpectedly from Violet Holmes, a longtime Rockette choreographer, inviting her to perform in the Super Bowl XXII halftime show. Unsure if this meant she was officially hired, Jones initially hesitated but quickly called back and accepted.

Just days later, while watching the news, Jones learned she was the first Black dancer hired by the Rockettes since their founding in 1925. She humorously recalled thinking, ‘Huh, I wonder who that is,’ before her mother called to confirm. At just 20 years old in 1987, Jennifer Jones officially became a Rockette and was promptly prepared for media training to introduce this groundbreaking moment to the world.

    Navigating Change and Resistance

Despite joining decades after the Civil Rights Movement, Jones’s arrival wasn’t universally celebrated. She explained that ‘anytime there’s change, there’s resistance.’ While some were welcoming, others, including some fellow dancers and management, were not thrilled. Jones felt scrutinized, constantly corrected, and sometimes laughed at, which made her question if she truly belonged.

She held onto her childhood dream of dancing on a great stage and walking out the backstage door. This core desire fueled her resilience. Jones eventually danced for 15 seasons, leaving an indelible mark and paving the way for greater diversity within the troupe.

    A Lasting Legacy

Jones’s presence opened doors for more Black dancers, including pioneers like Danielle Jolie Dale-Hancock and Danelle Morgan. Today, the annual Christmas Spectacular features a growing number of Black dancers, a visible shift from the once uniformly white line Jones entered. Jones has since chronicled her journey in her memoir, ‘Becoming Spectacular,’ and continues to celebrate the Rockettes’ legacy and the importance of diversity in dance.

What does Jennifer Jones’s story mean to you? How important is diversity and representation in iconic performance groups like the Rockettes? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

  • Melani Sanders: From ‘We Do Not Care’ to Creator of the Year

Talk about an unexpected journey! Melani Sanders, the brilliant mind behind the viral “We Do Not Care” club, has just been honored as People magazine’s “Creator of the Year.” What started as a moment of vulnerability has blossomed into a powerful movement, resonating with millions of women navigating perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause.

From Accidental Founder to Viral Sensation

It’s hard to believe that just over six months ago, Melani Sanders, a mother of three from West Palm Beach, Florida, was simply sharing a “vulnerable” video about wearing a too-small bra and deciding she “did not care.” This simple act of self-acceptance struck a chord. She invited other women to join her in shedding the weight of emotional labor, perfectionism, and people-pleasing – whether that meant ordering takeout instead of cooking or running errands in their bonnets.

The response was immediate and overwhelming. Her video went viral, sparking headlines and interviews. “It resonated with so many women,” Sanders shared, noting that the movement “has taken on a life of its own.” With a following now boasting 2.1 million people, including celebrities like Halle Berry and Sharon Stone, it’s clear this message of radical self-acceptance is exactly what many needed to hear.

    Celebrating Sisterhood and Shared Experiences

Sanders’ movement goes beyond just acknowledging the physical changes during “the change.” It highlights the profound shifts in a woman’s body and identity during this life stage. What’s particularly powerful is the diversity within the “We Do Not Care” community, demonstrating that the challenges and triumphs of menopause are felt universally, regardless of race or social standing.

“It has made me realize that women are so much more alike than different,” Sanders reflected. The shared experiences of navigating perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause create a strong sense of connection and relatability among women, fostering a true sisterhood.

    What’s Next for the Movement?

The momentum is undeniable! Sanders is channeling this energy into new ventures. She’s writing a book, “The Official We Do Not Care Club Handbook,” set to be released on January 16th. She’s also partnered with Midi Health, a virtual care clinic focused on perimenopause and menopause, and envisions expanding the platform further, perhaps even with in-person meetups for her growing community.

In the meantime, Sanders continues to deliver her signature weekly “WDNC” videos, often sporting multiple pairs of glasses with her characteristic deadpan humor. She told People that she’s energized by this unexpected turn of events, realizing that this path was meant for her. Her message is simple yet profound: embrace vulnerability, be yourself, and see what amazing things can happen.

  • Summer Walker’s Surgery Confession Sparks Debate

Singer Summer Walker is known for her unfiltered honesty, and her latest confession is no exception. During a recent interview on “The Morning Hustle” radio show, Walker revealed her intense relationship with surgery, admitting she even considered a rather extreme procedure. This candidness is reigniting conversations about cosmetic surgery, body image, and the pressures faced by those in the public eye.

    A Shocking Revelation: Rib Removal?

After wrapping up the Chris Brown tour, Walker didn’t take a break; instead, she headed straight for the operating room. “I love surgery,” she admitted, revealing she had her breasts redone for the fourth time and underwent liposuction for the second time. But the most startling detail? Walker confessed she seriously contemplated having a rib removed before her team intervened.

Her team reminded her of upcoming album release duties, video shoots, and press obligations, successfully talking her out of the rib removal. However, the mere consideration of such a procedure highlights the intense pressures and desires surrounding body modification in today’s culture.

    Normalizing Cosmetic Procedures

Walker’s openness about her multiple surgeries, including BBLs and previous procedures, reflects a broader trend. Cosmetic surgery has become increasingly normalized and heavily marketed, especially online. From preventative fillers to procedures like BBLs, these aesthetic practices are often intertwined with discussions about personal agency and self-love.

This isn’t the first time Walker has addressed criticism about her body. She has consistently defended her choices, asserting that her body and her self-love are not up for public debate. “I LOVE my body with a fiery burning passion,” she previously stated on social media, urging critics to “get over it” and block her if her choices offended them.

    Beauty Standards and Black Womanhood

Summer Walker’s story, intentionally or not, brings to light the complex intersection of beauty culture, personal autonomy, and Black womanhood. While cosmetic procedures are becoming more casual, the public response to Black women altering their bodies often shifts from curiosity to moral judgment, as if their bodies are communal property subject to scrutiny.

Her extreme revelation about wanting a rib removed raises a significant question: how much is too much? In a world where beauty standards change rapidly, it’s challenging to define that line. Walker’s candidness invites us to consider the pressures women face and the personal choices they make regarding their bodies.

What are your thoughts on Summer Walker’s confession and the broader conversation around cosmetic surgery? Where do you draw the line between personal choice and societal pressure? Share your opinions in the comments below!

  • Pharrell Responds to Backlash Over Political Comments

Pharrell Williams is speaking out against the recent backlash he’s faced for his comments on politics and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). While accepting the prestigious Shoe of the Year award at the 2025 Footwear News Achievement Awards, the artist directly addressed his critics, whom he refers to as “sound biters.”

    ‘Sound Bite This’: Pharrell’s Message

Williams used his acceptance speech to deliver a powerful message, urging people to “sound bite this” and emphasizing that his perspective comes from a place of lived experience. “You don’t know what I know. You ain’t seen what I saw. No, you ain’t been where I go,” he declared, referencing his upbringing in Virginia. He described himself as being “from the mud,” recalling hardships like evictions and lack of basic necessities, identifying as a “proletariat” and “lumpenproletariat.”

He continued by drawing parallels to his ancestors’ struggles, highlighting the resilience required of Black and Brown people. “As Black and Brown people on this earth, we have to stay on our feet. We have never had a choice,” he stated, underscoring the historical context that shapes his views.

    Addressing the DEI Controversy

The recent controversy stems from comments Williams made at his non-profit Black Ambition’s Demo Day, where he expressed a strong dislike for politics, calling it a “magic trick.” He stated he doesn’t “believe in either side” and that picking a side inadvertently supports division. He also questioned the basis for DEI initiatives, asking whether support for businesses or jobs should be based on merit or race.

While he previously attempted to clarify his intentions, Williams admitted that his frustration over the “lack of DEI support, and donations drying up because of new policies” led to him being “caught lacking” by those who took his words out of context. He assured his audience, however, that he will “never stop fighting” and will continue to raise funds to “level the playing field.”

    A Call for Deeper Understanding

Pharrell Williams’ message seems to be a plea for a more nuanced understanding of his views, urging people to look beyond isolated sound bites and consider the broader context of his experiences and intentions. His commitment to fighting for equality and supporting aspiring entrepreneurs remains firm, despite the challenges of navigating complex public discourse.
