The recent No Limit and Cash Money Verzuz battle at ComplexCon was meant to be a celebration of New Orleans hip-hop, but for former No Limit artist Mercedes, it turned into a frustrating experience. She claims she was all set to perform her iconic hit “I Can Tell” but was allegedly blocked from taking the stage, even though the song was played during the event.
Blocked from Performing Her Own Hit
In a video shared online, Mercedes expressed her disbelief and anger. “I don’t know how the f**k somebody else got to sing my song, without singing one of theirs,” she stated, clearly upset. She described being at the event with her wristband, ready to go on, only to see someone else seemingly take her spot. “This s**t is f**ked up and foul. But it’s cool, because I promise I got something for everybody.”
Mercedes didn’t hold back, accusing organizers of deliberately keeping her off stage. “Why do they have me and Timbaland on the side of the stage?” she questioned. “These b***hes didn’t let me go on. That sounds deliberate. Something just ain’t right.”
Threatening Legal Action
Adding fuel to the fire, Mercedes explicitly stated her intention to pursue legal action. “Y’all can expect a lawsuit because I did not give permission for anybody else to perform my song. So it’s gonna be f**kin’ a problem.” She also appeared to take aim at No Limit founder Master P, calling his business practices “bad” and accusing him of “janking promoters.”
However, former No Limit artist Mac has since spoken out, claiming Mercedes was not under contract with Verzuz to perform. He also clarified that rapper Mia X did not perform Mercedes’ part, suggesting the crowd was invited to sing along while he performed his own verses. Whether Mercedes’ lawsuit threats materialize or not, this incident has certainly stirred up old tensions within the No Limit camp.
