Halloween night in New York City took an unexpected and unsettling turn for rapper Meek Mill. The Philadelphia artist, known for his music and advocacy, found himself in handcuffs outside a Manhattan club, an experience he described as both embarrassing and bewildering.

A Night of Shock and Confusion

According to Meek Mill’s own account on Twitter, he was pulled from his car and cuffed in front of a crowd. He expressed disbelief, stating, “I thought it was a prank,” and felt guns were pointed at him unnecessarily. The rapper conveyed his distress, tweeting, “Embarrassed the s–t out of me in nyc! I’m not scared to go outside without a gun… they had guns in my face for no reason smh.”

He further elaborated on his feelings, suggesting a sense of being targeted: “they tryna get me…” This incident occurred outside a club on Dyckman Avenue, and a video shared on social media shows Meek Mill speaking with officers while in handcuffs.

The Official Police Account

Law enforcement sources indicated that the NYPD was responding to a call about a male possessing a firearm in the vehicle’s vicinity. Officers reportedly stopped three individuals in a car that matched the description and license plate provided by a witness. However, no arrests were made, and crucially, no firearm was recovered by the police.

A History with Law Enforcement

This incident adds another chapter to Meek Mill’s well-documented history with law enforcement and the justice system. He previously served time for probation violations stemming from a decade-old gun and drug case in Philadelphia. While his conviction was later overturned due to credibility issues with the arresting officer, he eventually pleaded guilty to a weapons charge.

In 2023, he received a pardon from former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf for those same charges. This experience has fueled his work as an activist for criminal justice reform, making encounters like this particularly poignant for him and his supporters.
