Tragedy has struck the hip-hop community as Eugene “Big U” Henley’s son, Jabari “Baby Uiie” Henley, has reportedly been shot and killed in South Los Angeles. The news comes amid an already challenging year for the hip-hop executive, who is currently incarcerated as part of a RICO case.
A Devastating Loss Amidst Legal Battles
According to reports citing family sources, Jabari Henley, 34, was shot and killed outside a smoke shop on the night of Friday, October 31st. Police arrived at the scene around 11 PM at the intersection of 69th Street and Figueroa Street. While the LAPD has not officially confirmed the victim’s identity or any connection to gang activity, TMZ reportedly confirmed the identity through family.
Adding to the heartbreak, Luce Cannon, who is reportedly incarcerated alongside Big U in the same RICO case, spoke to TMZ from behind bars. Cannon shared that he was the one who first informed Big U of the devastating news. Both men are reportedly heartbroken and devastated, trying to support each other through this immense tragedy despite their incarceration.
Details of the Incident
An LAPD spokesperson reportedly stated that the victim, described as a 34-year-old Black male, approached a suspect vehicle when an unknown assailant or assailants opened fire. The suspects reportedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Luce Cannon also reportedly expressed his belief that Jabari Henley likely knew his attacker.
A Difficult Time for Big U
This tragic event compounds the difficulties Big U is facing. He is currently awaiting trial in a significant RICO case and recently had his lawyer withdraw due to communication issues. His trial is currently scheduled to begin in May 2026. The hip-hop community awaits further statements and tributes as more information becomes available.
