Meet Nabeelah Aminah, the visionary founder of Orena Fragrances. At just 22 years old, she noticed a gap in the beauty market: luxury fragrances were often inaccessible, and the accompanying body care products lacked the lasting, rich scents that truly elevated the experience. Driven by her perspective as a young Black Muslim woman, Aminah set out to create a solution, launching Orena Fragrances in 2023.
Bridging the Gap: From Personal Need to Accessible Luxury
Aminah’s journey began with a personal quest for body care that matched her favorite high-end perfumes. Frustrated by lightly scented, short-lived lotions, she dedicated two years to developing alcohol-free formulas that offered both luxurious feel and long-lasting fragrance. Her goal was clear: to make the experience of luxury scents an everyday reality for everyone, not just an occasional indulgence.
Orena Fragrances was born from this desire to bridge the gap between exclusive designer scents and everyday accessibility. Inspired by brands like Kilian Paris and Giardini di Toscana, Aminah offers high-performance body oils and lotions that capture the essence of luxury perfumery at a more attainable price point. With products ranging from $48 to $72, Orena makes elevated scent experiences available to a broader audience.
Defining ‘Affordable Luxury’
For Aminah, “affordable luxury” means providing high-quality, intentional products that feel special without demanding a luxury budget. She believes luxury is fundamentally about experience and emotion, not just a price tag. Orena aims to empower customers to enjoy products that make them feel good and confident, fostering an emotional connection that goes beyond the purchase.
Navigating the Beauty Industry as a Founder
Aminah acknowledges the challenges of building credibility in a competitive industry, especially as a young Black woman founder. She emphasizes the importance of learning the business side early, focusing on systems, operations, and strategy alongside branding and product quality. Earning trust through consistency and results has been key to Orena’s rapid growth, which reportedly generated six figures monthly within its first year.
She’s also been intentional about balancing her identity as a Black-owned brand with the universal appeal of her products. Aminah wants Orena to be recognized for its quality and experience first, demonstrating that excellence and ambition can thrive without being confined to a single narrative.
Building a Legacy of Ownership and Ambition
Looking long-term, Aminah hopes Orena Fragrances will serve as a blueprint, proving that Black women can build successful, scalable brands in luxury spaces. Personally, she’s building something that embodies freedom, ownership, and self-belief. Generationally, she aims to normalize ambition and independence, showing that creating something meaningful can be achieved from the ground up.
Her advice to aspiring Black women in the beauty industry is to prioritize the business fundamentals, be patient, and trust their vision while staying grounded. As the industry shifts towards authenticity and connection over fleeting trends, Orena Fragrances is well-positioned, focusing on building community and lasting customer relationships.
